In 2008 the founder of Campaign for Democracy, Graham McArthur was accused of assault, a serious matter because a criminal conviction would make it difficult to take the campaign forward. The truth was very different. He had been the victim of an assault but the person who had attacked him, George Stook-Vaughan had made a false statement to the police.

Careful examination of the evidence would have revealed the truth but that didn't happen. Instead Mr McArthur was convicted of assault and a series of legal mistakes ensured the matter wasn't dealt with properly. When senior figures in the legal establishment became aware of the full extent of the mistakes a cover up began. They knew that Campaign for Democracy didn't run in 2010 because of these mistakes and that if the truth were revealed the reputation of the British legal system would be severely damaged. The evidence proving the cover up took place has been put on this website.

Bear this in mind. What happened to Graham McArthur could happen to you.

The most important campaign in the country was almost destroyed because of a miscarriage of justice.

This is an extraordinary claim but the evidence is on this page. This includes all the statements taken from witnesses by the police. The key evidence is presented in three tables. The first two tables compare the claims made by Graham McArthur and his attackers to the statements made by the witnesses. The centre column contains the claims made. The right hand column contains evidence from witnesses or other sources that contradict the claims. The left hand column refers to evidence that supports the claims. You can check the accuracy of the tables by examining the witness statements (pages 1 - 15) below the tables. The third table compares the claims made by Graham McArthur's attackers to a statement made by a doctor who examined the 'victim'.

In addition to this there are some notes that go into the evidence in greater detail. It can be seen that the allegations made against Graham McArthur are false. This is the evidence that was seen by the Criminal Cases Review Commission in 2011 and 2013.
